We had so much fun supporting the Florida AIDS Walk yesterday on Fort Lauderdale Beach! An estimated 1.1 million people in the US are living with HIV, and 15% of them don’t even know it. Florida is disproportionately affected, and while progress has been made, the rate of new HIV diagnosis is back on the rise.
Dean Trantalis, who was elected as Fort Lauderdale's Mayor on Tuesday, made an appearance at the event. Trantalis explained how important organizations like AHF and the nine beneficiary organizations are in the fight against the stigma of HIV and AIDS. Students from Stoneman Douglas addressed the crowd as well, and Flo Rida wrapped up the day with an exciting performance! This was the most successful Florida AIDS Walk to date with over 3,000 participants and over $2 million raised to provide HIV and AIDS services and outreach in South Florida.
